Healthy Chocolate Mousse
Healthy Chocolate Mousse is decadent and rich. It reminds me of a creamy version of my favorite gourmet candy bars. Flavors of cacao, tahini, coconut and salt really meld together to create an indulgent, yet nutritious treat.
Healthy Chocolate Mousse was actually a kitchen fail to begin with. I was going for more of a pudding like texture and as I scooped it out of the fridge I realized it was thick, almost frosting like. Like a chocolate ganache almost. You know that chocolate cream filling you’d find in a truffle? The more I tasted it I kept going back for more. Yes, it may have been a fail from the original goal but I definitely feel that I found a new treat to have in the fridge.
This mousse is thick, rich and indulgent. You can allow it to sit on the counter to soften a little, but I do love the thick scoop it gives right out of the fridge. I also love topping this with some fresh whipped coconut cream and cacao nibs. You could also pair it with some ice cream, chocolate chips or crushed nuts.
To make Healthy Chocolate Mousse you’ll need the following ingredients:
Coconut milk: You could also use any milk that you prefer.
Coconut oil: You will melt this prior to blending. This will help thicken and solidify the ingredients, and is a great healthy fat.
Cocao powder: Brings the rich, chocolate flavor. You can use cocoa if you don’t have cacao, but they aren’t truly the same. Cacao powder has loads of nutrients in it, and cacoa just doesn’t. That being said, both work fine here.
Tahini: Or any nut butter.
Maple syrup: You could try honey if you prefer as well. Though, I love the maple and chocolate flavor together.
Vanilla: Brings a great flavor to the mousse.
Sea salt: Such a great combo with the chocolate flavor.
